Police had to use their Tasers on an Iowa City man after he reportedly threw a child’s chair at an officer and resisted arrest.

Wesley Carter, 24, 1958 Broadway Apt. 11B, was charged Wednesday with assault on police personnel.

According to police reports, officers were sent to the residence after dispatchers heard crying and violent arguing in the background during two 911 hang-up calls.

When they arrived, they told Carter he was being placed under arrest, but Carter allegedly grabbed a child’s chair and threw it at an officer, hitting him in the shoulder, police said.

Carter ran to a bedroom closet and closed the door, authorities said. Officers said they had to forcefully open the door and use their Tasers in order to complete the arrest.

Assault on police personnel is a serious misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a maximum fine of $1,875.
