The Iowa City School District redistricting-committee members met with RSP & Associates consultants and district officials to discuss four new potential redistricting options on Wednesday.
More than 60 community members attended parts of the meeting, held in the West High auditorium.
Committee members discussed scenarios including possible building additions to Lemme and Shimek Elementary Schools. Members also continued to discuss adding a ninth-grade facility that would transition to a new high school and possible additions to existing high schools.
District officials said they are no longer considering the scenario including adding a fourth junior high and pairing students from Twain and Longfellow because of financial concerns.
A majority of committee members agreed district officials should re-examine capacity concerns at East Side elementary schools. Members voiced concerns regarding consolidating students in existing buildings and updating older facilities.
Committee members will meet again on March 30 at City High to come to a consensus on a recommendation for the School Board.
