An Iowa City man allegedly attempted to buy over $3,000 in items with someone else’s ID and credit card.
Michael Lash, 21, 840 Cypress Court, was charged Sunday with identity theft.
According to police, Lash stole credit cards and the victim’s ID and used the cards in two different stores at the Coral Ridge Mall.
Lash reportedly purchased a pair of sunglasses with one of the credit cards and attempted to buy more than $3,000 in goods from Best Buy.
The purchase was denied by Best Buy after Lash tried to pay with the victim’s credit cards and ID, police said.
Identity theft is a Class D felony generally punishable by up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of $7,500.
