For a person ineligible to carry a dangerous weapon, the charge is a serious misdemeanor unless otherwise stated, according to Iowa code.
Jail time and fines depend on the case for a minor in possession of a dangerous weapon.
The investigation took place following a report of a shot being fired at 3 a.m. on March 8.
The shot occurred on the 200 block of South Clinton Street near the Old Capital Mall, where police found evidence of gunfire.
The incident remains under investigation, and the police department expects to make additional arrests, according to the release.
Lee Hermiston, public information officer for the Iowa City Police Department, said state law prevents the sharing of information, including the name and holding location of a juvenile, unless they are charged with a forceful felony.
According to Iowa code, this includes felonious child endangerment, assault, murder, sexual abuse, kidnapping, robbery, human trafficking, and arson in the first degree, or burglary in the first degree.
