Over one hundred demonstrators gathered on the Pentacrest in Iowa City on Saturday for the university of Iowa, Erase Hate Not Our Communities protest.
The demonstration responded to the University of Iowa’s discontinuation of living-learning communities (LLCs) operations. Additionally, the organizers called for the protection and funding of existing resources for marginalized communities at the university.
The event was hosted by the Latino Student Union and the Black Student Union with support from many other organizations on campus. A collection of student club leaders, LLC resident assistants, and faculty gave speeches in support of the protest’s message.
