The Iowa women’s golf team headed east this week to Charlottesville, Virginia, to compete at the Cavalier Regional Preview — struggling to a 10th-place finish.
The two-day event hosted by the University of Virginia was played on Birdwood Golf Course and featured a total of 12 teams.
The Hawkeyes competed against the likes of Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Iowa finished three rounds of intense play with a combined score of 921 for 69 over par.
The starting Hawkeye roster included Paula Miranda, Maura Peters, Adie Maki, Ximena Benites, and Kaitlyn Hanna.
After two rounds of play on Monday, fourth-year Miranda led the Hawkeyes with a 36-hole total of 148, putting her in 30th place in the competition at the start of the second day of play — where she would maintain her role as Iowa’s leading scorer.
Benites tied for 53rd, Peters tied for 56th, Hanna tied for 63rd, and Maki tied for 65th.
Inez Ng out of the University of North Carolina took the first place spot with a score of 201 over three rounds. The Tarheels also took the team trophy back to Chapel Hill with a combined team score of 830 — 22 under par and a whopping 91 strokes over Iowa.
