Iowa rowing wins three races at Big Ten Invitational in Florida

The Hawkeyes’ First Varsity Eight, First Varsity Four, and Third Varsity Four teams all picked up victories in Sarasota.

The Iowa rowing team won three races at the Big Ten Invitational in Sarasota, Florida, this weekend. The Hawkeyes’ First Varsity Eight, First Varsity Four, and Third Varsity Four teams all placed first in their respective competitions.

Iowa’s three boats topped competition from Notre Dame, Indiana, Dartmouth, Michigan State, and Minnesota. The Hawkeyes picked up the most wins of any team in the field.

“I can’t say enough how proud I am of this team,” Iowa head coach Jeff Garbutt said via release. “They rose to the occasion this weekend and knew they had to put in their best effort with this level of competition. We were ready to get back to work and stay close to home the next month as we prepare for the Big Ten Championship.”

Big picture

Iowa has now won at least one race in three of the last four events it’s completed in. The lone meet the Hawkeyes did not win a race in was the Pac-12 Invitational in Las Vegas April 9-10.

Up next

Iowa will host Michigan State and Tulsa in a home regatta on April 23. The Hawkeyes will also welcome the Golden Gophers, Oregon State Beavers, UCF Golden Knights, USC Trojans, and Wisconsin Badgers to eastern Iowa on April 29.

The Hawkeyes will compete in the Big Ten Championships in Indianapolis on May 15.
