Several of Iowa City’s main roads are slated for major reconstruction, with some projects starting as soon as late summer and early fall.

North Dubuque Street between Iowa Avenue and Washington Street will get updated pavement as well as sidewalk improvements, and alley pavement replacements.

Foth Infrastructure and Environment are providing the designs for the Dubuque Street construction, which is operating on a budget of $292,600.

The project is a part of Iowa City’s downtown streetscape master plan and will be funded out of the General Obligation Bonds.

The Dubuque project is a part of the city council’s capital improvement plan, which aims to better the city’s infrastructure.

Eastwood and Southlawn Drives construction

The project renovating the intersection of Eastwood and Southlawn Drives is also moving forward after a vote from the Iowa City City Council on Tuesday.

The Eastwood and Southlawn Drive intersection construction will implement new storm sewer pipes. In addition, it will improve accessibility through sidewalk curb ramps for people with disabilities to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The construction on the intersection of Eastwood and Southlawn Drive will be funded by the Annual Storm Water Improvement funds. The specific amount is not known yet.

The city council did not discuss the projects during its meeting on Tuesday.
