Around 60 demonstrators assembled on the Pentacrest at the University of Iowa calling for peace in Ukraine on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022. Demonstrators unfurled Ukrainian flags, created Ukrainian flag armbands, and adorned the sidewalk with chalk drawings of the Ukrainian flag.
A few demonstrators urged others to donate money to Ukrainians and called upon Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and President Joe Biden to welcome any refugees fleeing violence in Ukraine.
Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24 after weeks of troop build-up around the country’s border. Thousands of people in cities around the U.S rallied in support of Ukraine on Sunday.
