A man has been accused of robbery and attempted murder.

Trent Tyron Grant, 34, transient, was charged on Aug. 21 with first-degree robbery and attempted murder of an employee at Dell-Mart, located at 1920 Lower Muscantine Road in Iowa City.

According to the affidavit, Grant entered Dell-Mart through an area restricted from public use through the use of a gate. Upon entering the mart, Grant repeatedly stabbed the victim until he opened the cash register. The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and needed immediate surgery.

Grant left his bag at the scene, taking the money from the register. He later identified himself on surveillance footage that captured the incident after being apprehended and read his rights.

The affidavit said Grant admitted he stabbed the victim and went back and forth between whether he entered with the intent to stab the victim or with the intent to rob the store. Grant admitted that he had previous altercations with the victim.

Both first-degree robbery and attempted murder are Class-B felonies.
