Iowa men’s hoops downs Oral Roberts

Iowa toppled Oral Roberts 87-74 for its second win of the season on Friday.

The Iowa men’s basketball team found its way back into the win column with an 87-74 victory over Oral Roberts on Friday in Carver-Hawkeye.

Iowa’s big men led the way almost from the tip.

Luka Garza and Jack Nunge were everywhere, lighting up the scoreboard with two early 3-pointers for the Hawkeyes’ first points of the game.

The theme continued, and the duo scored 18 of Iowa’s first 24 points.

Garza finished with a game-high 30 points on 12-of-19 shooting, and Nunge dropped 14 and grabbed 9 rebounds after scoring his first field goal of the season.

Connor McCaffery also pitched in with 10 points and 7.

Iowa’s defense left some things to be desired — Oral Roberts shot 43 percent from beyond the arc in the first half — but the Hawkeyes were much improved from their 93-78 loss to DePaul on Monday.

Iowa will hit the floor again when it takes on North Florida at Carver-Hawkeye on Nov. 21.
