Iowa women’s golf team travels to Mexico to complete the fall golf season finale

Iowa women’s golf takes a long road trip to Mexico to compete in its final tournament of the 2019 fall season.

The Iowa women’s golf team concludes the 2019 fall golf season in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico this weekend at The Battle of the Beach hosted by Texas Christian University.

The tournament takes place Nov. 1-3 at the par-72, 6,250-yard Club Campestre San Jose, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. for rounds one and two and a 7:15 a.m. shotgun to start the final round.

The 88-player field consists of 16 teams, including No. 11 Vanderbilt, No. 14 Ole Miss, No. 18 LSU, No. 20 Virginia Tech, and fellow Big Ten competitor Nebraska.

Iowa comes back from a ninth-place finish at the Magnolia Invitational Oct. 13 and 14. The team finished a 54-hole finish with 908 (+44) with freshman Jacque Galloway leading the Hawkeyes, carding a 217 (+1). Fellow freshman Lea Zeitler followed behind, shooting a 223 (+7) over the tournament.

This is the Hawkeyes’ second time traveling to San Jose del Cabo, finishing 15th out of 17 teams last year, seven strokes above 17th place Tulsa, with a team card of 918 (+66). Sophomore Manuela Lizarazu finished top for Iowa, tying for 19th place and shooting 219 (+6). 

The Hawkeyes return to action for the start of the spring season for the Allstate Sugar Bowl, hosted by Tulane, February 16-18.
