Cedar Rapids man and Iowa City man accused of willful injury causing serious injury

A Cedar Rapids man and an Iowa City man have both been accused of willful injury causing serious injury.

Dejuanyae Jones and Keith Kizart were charged on Oct. 27 with willful injury causing serious injury and assault with the use/display of a weapon.

According to the arrest affidavit, Jones and Kizart confronted the victim in the parking lot of the Kum & Go on Mormon Trek Boulevard in Iowa City about a previous robbery. Jones and Kizart were not provoked by the victim.

Jones and Kizart were seen on security cameras and by a witness attacking, punching, and stomping the victim, the affidavit said. Kizart used a gun to hit the victim. The victim was left with a head injury, bleeding, and swelling, the affidavit said.

Kizart admitted to police that he hit the victim with the gun, according to the affidavit.

Willful injury causing serious injury is a Class-C felony.
