An Iowa City man has been accused of kidnapping.

Rodney Bryant, 24, was charged Sept. 5 with second-degree kidnapping.

According to the arrest affidavit, Bryant picked up a three-year-old child who was playing outside on the 2000 block of Taylor Drive. 

A four-year-old sibling of the child told the mother what had happened, the affidavit said, and she saw Bryant trying to take the child into another home. When confronted, the affidavit said, Bryant refused to let go of the child. 

The child’s mother got hold of the child, the affidavit said, and Bryant left the area.

When asked by police, the affidavit said, Bryant admitted to taking the child but said another man asked him to. 

Second-degree kidnapping is a Class-B felony.
