Authorities have accused a North Liberty man of showing a child a handgun and saying, “I’m going to shoot some cops and then you.”
Allan Reiken, 55, was charged July 18 with four counts of child endangerment, interference while holding a firearm, domestic assault, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and first-degree harassment.
According to the arrest affidavit, Reiken, who was reportedly intoxicated, was in an oral altercation with other residents of the house, and when he heard the police were being called, he said, “I’m going to shoot some cops and then you” to a resident after showing the person his handgun. The documents also say Reiken shoved a resident to the ground while she was trying to de-escalate the situation. When the police arrived, Reiken did not comply with their instructions, and when he was in custody, officers found a 9mm handgun in his waistband.
Interference while holding a firearm is a Class-D felony. Intimidation with a dangerous weapon is a Class-C felony.
