2 accused in North Liberty attack

Authorities have accused two North Liberty men of punching someone to the point of unconsciousness.

Pacific Achiza, 18, was charged July 19 with willfully causing serious injury. Resean Yates, 18, was charged July 19 with willfully causing serious injury, interference with official acts, and interference with official acts causing bodily injury.

According to the arrest affidavit, Achiza was captured on video at the North Liberty Recreation Center repeatedly punching a man in the face numerous times, even after he appeared to be unconscious, causing head trauma and injury potentially requiring stitches. Yates was captured on video slamming the person’s head into the pavement. According to the documents, Yates kicked an officer in the leg while being taken into custody and demanded to fight the officers.

Willfully causing serious injury is a Class-C felony.
