Authorities have charged a North Liberty man of possessing marijuana and a firearm during a traffic stop.

Charlie Pitchford, 39, was charged July 13 with third or subsequent possession of a controlled substance, carrying weapons, and control of a firearm by a felon.

According to the arrest affidavit, Pitchford was stopped by an officer after failing to yield to a stop sign and driving over the speed limit. Aided by a K9 unit, police reportedly found a gram of marijuana in Pitchford’s center console and a handgun with a loaded magazine under the passenger seat.

Third or subsequent OWI and control of a firearm by a felon are Class-D felonies.
