Hawkeye wrestling finishes wrestle-off competition

Iowa opens its season on Nov. 9 following its two days of wrestle-offs.

Iowa wrestling will begin its season Nov. 9 in Kent, Ohio, after concluding its annual wrestle-offs on Nov. 2.

To start the afternoon on Nov. 2 at 125, Spencer Lee pinned Aaron Cashman. Cashman later defeated Perez Perez, 8-6.

At 133, Austin DeSanto took a 6-3 decision against Paul Glynn. At 141, Max Murin beat Vince Turk, 5-4.

Two pins on Nov. 2 were the only two in the two days of wrestle-offs. At 149, Pat Lugo pinned Zach Axmear in 36 seconds for the second.

At 157, Kaleb Young took the 3-1 decision against Jeren Glosser.

Alex Marinelli saw his first action of the two-day event at 165 against Nelson Brands. Marinelli took the decision, 6-3.

At 184, Cash Wilcke defeated Mitch Bowman in a 9-5 decision.

Jacob Warner recorded Iowa’s only major decision of the second day with a 10-1 win against Connor Corbin at 197.

In the opener, Iowa will face Cal State-Bakersfield at 4:30 p.m. and Kent State at 6 p.m.
