Authorities have accused an Iowa City man of choking his pregnant girlfriend.

Willie Collins, 26, 806 E. College St., was charged Oct. 29 with domestic abuse/assault impeding air/blood causing injury.

According to the arrest affidavit, Collins was fighting with his girlfriend, who is nine weeks pregnant, about the paternity of the child. Collins choked the woman to the point of her not being able to breathe several times during the fight. The woman said she thought Collins was going to kill her.

Domestic abuse/assault impeding air/blood causing injury is a Class D felony.
