Every week, Daily Iowan photo editors select a series of photographs that represents both the major news of the week as well as the best photography from the photo staff as a whole. The photo staff is part of a strong tradition of visual storytelling at the DI.

John Bowman picks kale from the community garden at the Prairie Hill Co-Housing community in Iowa City on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018. John and his wife Valerie moved to Prairie Hill because they felt that co-housing offered a good balance between community and privacy. The community is based on the Danish co-housing model and includes private residences as well as spaces common to all residents, such as a communal garden.
