Vigil for Mollie Tibbetts Wednesday night

A vigil honoring 20-year-old University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts will be held Wednesday in Hubbard Park at 7 p.m.

This was planned after authorities announced they found a body they believe to be Tibbetts’ on the morning of Aug. 21 outside Brooklyn, Iowa. She has been missing since July 18.

Authorities have also charged Cristhian Bahena Rivera with first-degree murder. Rivera reportedly admitted to approaching Tibbetts on July 18, & Tibbetts threatened to call police if Rivera didn’t leave her alone. Rivera then told investigators he blacked out until he was at an intersection in his car, when he then realized he had Tibbetts’ body in his trunk.

Rivera is being held in the Poweshiek County Jail.
