Authorities have taken an Iowa City man into custody on suspicion of domestic abuse.

Tahmir Allen, 27, was charged July 18 with domestic abuse/assault impeding air/blood flow and fourth-offense domestic abuse/assault. According to an arrest affidavit, officers responded to a residence in which Allen and a woman live together. Allen and the woman had been arguing, which led to him reportedly holding her by the neck, slamming her to the floor, and punching her in the face, the affidavit said. Allen has three previous domestic-abuse convictions since 2013.

Third or subsequent domestic abuse/assault and domestic abuse/assault impeding air/blood flow are both Class-D felonies.
