The University of Iowa will discontinue its Bachelor of Science degree in journalism and mass communication after the state Board of Regents approved the request for termination onJune 7 during a meeting at the University of Northern Iowa.
According to regent documents, very few students select a B.S. in journalism instead of a B.A. in journalism, and requirements for the degrees are nearly the same. Students who have declared for the B.S. will be allowed to complete it, but it will not be offered to future students, according to the documents. There is no difference in placement outcome between receiving a B.A. or a B.S. in journalism, the documents noted.
