Authorities have accused an Iowa City man of fraud.
David Thomas, 40, 851 Rundell St., was charged Nov. 30 with first-offense fraudulent practice.
According to an arrest affidavit, officers were notified that a person was at the Johnson County Treasurer’s Office trying to get a fake or changed title registered.
Thomas had a title for a 2017 KIA, the affidavit said, but the title had been altered, and the VIN on the title was registered to people in Bolingbrook, Illinois.
Thomas said he got the title from a Chicago cousin, the affidavit said, and he contended that the vehicle had been purchased by his mother.
First-degree fraudulent practice is a Class-C felony.
