Authorities have issued a warrant for the arrest of an Iowa City man on a theft charge.
Kevin Mallette, 21, address unknown, is suspected of second-degree theft in an incident on Jan. 26.
According to the affidavit, Mallette used a stolen laptop to make a new user profile to transfer possession of the laptop to someone else.
The laptop, the affidavit said, had a program on it to alert any user of the laptop via pop-up window the laptop’s owner was a part of the University of Iowa. Mallette would have seen this alert before using the laptop, the affidavit said.
Mallette did not have permission to use or transfer possession of the laptop, the affidavit said, which cost $1,100.
Second-degree theft is a Class-D felony.
