The Iowa City and West Liberty Police Departments and Iowa City Police Association are teaming up in the fight against breast cancer for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Throughout October, the Pink Patch Project, a public awareness campaign designed to bring attention to the fight against breast cancer, aims to support research organizations in combating the disease, according to a press release.

Patches can be purchased at either Police Department for a minimum donation of $10 while supplies last.

“We want to do all that we can to help combat this terrible disease, and wearing the patches will help raise awareness about the disease and the work of the Pink Patch Project,” Iowa City Police Chief Jody Matherly said.

Money raised will benefit the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics’ Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital. To support this effort without purchasing a pink patch, donate directly online to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.

“We hope this effort will raise money for research, but also help remind folks to take the necessary steps to catch and treat breast cancer early,” West Liberty Police Chief Kary Kinmonth said.
