In limited action last season, Stanley finished 5-for-9 for 62 yards.
Junior Tyler Wiegers, the other passer in the mix, did not see action in 2016. In 2015, the Lake Orion, Michigan, native completed 3-of-4 passes for 32 yards.
Neither quarterback has started at any point in his Hawkeye career.
Head coach Kirk Ferentz indicated during media availability on Aug. 22 that he would name a starter on the Aug. 28, and he proved true to his word.
Kickoff for the Hawkeyes’ inaugural game against the Cowboys is slated for 11 a.m. Saturday.
