Those lucky enough to have taste buds should be ready for Beer and Food with Backpocket Brewery on Friday at Theater Cedar Rapids, 102 Third St. S.E.
Beer and Food is a monthly event that demonstrates how beers from various breweries can bring out the best of the food on a plate.
“Part of [Beer and Food] is the experience that you get,” said Teresa Albert, a co-owner of Millstream Brewing Co. “You get to talk to the chef who made the food, you get to speak to the brewer who made the beer, and you can’t walk into any restaurant and do that.“
Millstream, based in Amana, Iowa, was a brewer in May’s Beer and Food event.
This month, guests can taste different pairings with a $15 ticket from Backpocket Brewery for the showcased five courses.
“There’s a Backpocket beer perfect for every person, every occasion and, most importantly, every story,” Backpocket Brewery wrote on its website. Courses range from “Tannhauser Gate (Gose) paired with a homemade raspberry lime & jalapeño salsa served with organic tortilla chips” to “Slingshot (Dunkel) paired with a homemade Slingshot bread pudding topped with a roasted caramel, apple, cinnamon glaze,” the menu posted on the event page said. “We love to interact with the customer and talk about what we did and why we did it,” said Nate Marsceau, the Theater Cedar Rapids Linge Lounge and concessions manager and chef of the evening.
Guests can also learn at this event, by taking note of the dishes and experimenting at home.
“I want to see the passion I have for brewing rub off on the people who come to these events and to have them look at beer, wine, and liquor differently,” Marsceau said.
After the event, you might notice the different aromas and tastes different beers give off just as Marsceau does when he profiles the beers that are represented. When you get there, the food will be prepared, so Marceau will be ready to answer questions.
“I want [guests] to know when they come to an event that I’m hosting they’re going to get treated well, they’re going to have a fun beer to drink, and they’re going to be able to pair it with good homemade fresh food,” Marsceau said.
