Authorities are responding to reports of a shooting on Hollywood Boulevard.

The Iowa City Police Department received a call after 6 p.m. to respond to what the neighborhood’s residents say sounded like gunshots. Officers on the scene placed at least six evidence markers around what appeared to be shell casings.

Neighborhood resident Robert Heise said after hearing more than a dozen shots fired, people scattered and ran down the street away from the scene.

Heise said he recalls an incident several months ago during which police responded to gun shots that fired in the air. He also said cops respond to calls from the area regularly.

There were no ambulances on the scene, but it is unknown whether anyone was injured.

Officers on the scene declined to comment on the situation at this time. No one was available at the police department to respond to questions from The Daily Iowan.
