The Iowa diving team will be in Columbia, Missouri, today, Tuesday, and Wednesday for the NCAA Zone D Championships. Between the Hawkeye men’s and women’s teams, seven divers will compete. On the women’s side there will be Jacintha Thomas, Thelma Strandberg, Morgan Rafferty, and Calli Head.
Head has already competed twice in the NCAA Championships. She will dive in her best event, the platform. In 2015, Head placed 40th in this event, and in 2016 she finished 31st. If this trend continues, Head should be able to crack the top 25 this year.
The men will have the combo of Will Brenner and Brandis Heffner. These two will compete in all three board events — 1-meter, 3-meter, and platform. Matt Mauser will also take a crack at both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
Brenner, the school record holder in the 1-meter, should definitely be an athlete to watch.
