Daily Iowan football reporters Jordan Hansen and Mario Williams list four things Iowa must do in order to win Saturday.
…
Score early and often
It’s hard to imagine Miami (Ohio) keeping this close, but that’s what Tennessee thought Sept. 1 as well. Iowa can and should put this game away early. Letting the Redhawks hang around only increases the chance they make things interesting, Expect a heavy dose of LeShun Daniels and Akrum Wadley early on, with a couple play-action passes thrown in.
Let’s see some George Kittle
A play-action bootleg pass to Kittle? Sounds about right. Starting quarterback C.J. Beathard has great chemistry with his No. 1 tight end, so expect to see him go to him right off the bat. He’s got great hands and is usually a reliable target. This will be a great opportunity for them to irony the kinks out. Also, let’s see some Peter Pekar and how he handles the pressure of his first real action in an Iowa uniform.
Run early
A game such as this one against Miami (Ohio) is valuable. Getting some of the guys on the offensive line more experienced will be key. If they can protect starting running back LeShun Daniels and he can run all over the Redhawks this afternoon, Iowa will be in good shape.
More of VandeBerg/receivers
We all know Iowa loves to run, but it’ll be nice to see how the receiver unit looks in this one. VandeBerg and some of the younger wideouts should have some open looks, and starting quarterback Beathard should execute on those.
