Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio spoke to members of the media at Big Ten Media Days to discuss the upcoming 2016-2017 season.
- “It’s great to be back at the Big Ten Media Days”
- On former punter Mike Sadler: “He made everyone’s life around him better.”
- Talks about culture, “We’ve set the table in terms of what we have to do every year.”
- Happy about the tailback situation, wants his players at the position to come in ready to play.
- Says a lot of the culture change, and keeping the team winning, is keeping coaches. Says only five coaches have left in the last 10 years. Also compliments seniors and says that the established culture helps. “We have good classes of seniors every year.
- On Lovie Smith: “A great football coach, I’ve heard a lot of good things.”
- The Alabama game: “My wife says get over it, you lost.”
- Quarterback position: “We lost a lot,” which is a reference to Connor Cook. Says all four quarterbacks can play in the Big Ten. Says he’s going to keep the pressure on the quarterbacks and their positional coach.
- Asked about Penn State’s negative recruiting, apparently Michigan State was accused of this: “I have not said anything negative about Penn State” says that’s “not how they do business.
