Iowa baseball senior relief pitcher Luke Vandermaten was arrested early on the morning of May 16in downtown Iowa City and charged with public intoxication and fifth-degree criminal mischief.
Vandermaten, who was at DC’s, was allegedly out of control when the police were called. According to authorities, he admitted he had been drinking “a lot”; he reportedly had .175 blood-alcohol content in a test.
The senior had allegedly punched a hole in a wall in the bar, but when he was asked about it by police, he said one of the bartenders at DC’s had told him he could do it.
The manager of DC’s has requested criminal-mischief charges, which is a simple misdemeanor punishable of up to 30 days in jail.
Vandermaten, who was a member of Iowa’s Senior Day May 15 against Michigan State, has posted a 2-0 record in 2016 with 1 save and a 4.19 ERA.
