With this warm weather approaching, don’t be the one who forgets to protect yourself, and your skin.
Protecting your skin is important year round, but even more so in the summer.
“There’s really two kinds of skin cancers that we see,” MD resident physician Krishna Mutgi said. “There is a type of skin cancer called melanoma which is what people think of as bad moles or moles that have gone bad.”
Mutgi advises to consider the A, B, C, D, rule when looking at moles.
Asymmetrical, Border irregularity, Color, Diameter.
“One of the big myths in our society is that if you don’t burn, than you didn’t damage your skin,” Mutgi said. “What I tell everyone is ‘tan is damage.'”
And don’t think your car window protects you from the sun, either. One truck driver has extreme damage to his left side of his face from the sun sitting in the drivers seat.
Some tips to protect yourself this summer includes: wearing protective clothing while outside, using at least a SPF 30 sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection, and applying every two to three hours as long as you’re outside.
Mutgi suggests getting a spray tan if you crave that bonze glow this summer to escape sun damage problems.
