The Daily Iowan has reporters around Iowa City and Des Moines covering Iowa’s first-in-the-nation caucuses.
The DI has spoken with several individuals caucusing for Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.
“I’m voting for Marco Rubio because my twin and I went to his rally, and everything he said just made sense,” said Eli Puente, 18, a first time caucus-goer at Petersen Hall. “We don’t like Hillary or Bernie, and definitely not Trump.”
“Trump is just politically ignorant, Marco Rubio isn’t. Rubio spoke to me on an individual level at his rally, rather than just as a crowd,” said Emilio Puente, 18, also a first time caucus-goer at Petersen Hall.
Some said his policies were preferable compared to those of other candidates.
“He’s probably the most progressive out of all of the GOP, and he has the best chance of beating Ted Cruz in the primary,” said Sara Bultsma, a first-time caucus goer at the Iowa Memorial Union.
“I’m leaning towards Marco Rubio. None of the candidates really wow me, but I’ve always been a Republican,” said Christine Vu, 20, a first-time caucus goer at the Iowa Memorial Union.
