If there is any consolation to Iowa’s 16-13 loss to Michigan State Dec. 5, it came Sunday. The No. 5 Iowa football team will take on No. 6 Stanford in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day. The game is set to kick off at 4 p.m.
The 12-1 Hawkeyes stayed ahead of 11-1 Ohio State in the final College Football Playoff rankings before the playoff begins Dec. 31. The seventh-ranked Buckeyes will play No. 8 Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.
“We really thought Iowa really proved more in that loss than maybe they did for the rest of its schedule,” College Football Playoff Chairman Jeff Long said. “Holding it at No. 5 was the strong sentiment of the committee.”
Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz is scheduled to hold a press conference later this afternoon. The Daily Iowan will have full coverage from that event, as well as more wrap-up of the Big Ten Championship online and in Monday’s print edition.
