The Iowa men’s basketball team fell to Notre Dame on Nov. 27, 68-62, dropping its second game in as many nights at the AdvoCare Invitational in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Iowa jumped out to a 7-1 lead using a Peter Jok 3-pointer, and a Jarrod Uthoff 3 put the Hawkeyes ahead, 10-3. That was Iowa’s peak, however, and things went downhill from that point forward.

Notre Dame first took the lead, 14-13, just under the 12-minute mark on a V.J. Beachem lay-up, and Beachem proved to be a problem for the Hawkeyes all night long.

Beachem and Notre Dame’s Demetrius Jackson carried the Irish in the first half as the Iowa offense stalled, and Notre Dame led at halftime, 39-27. After scoring 10 points in just over two minutes, the Hawkeyes were outscored 36-17 in the 18 thereafter.

Iowa allowed the deficit to grow early in the second half, trailing 46-31 four minutes into the half. The Hawkeyes made a run, however, giving themselves a second chance.

A 16-0 run capped by an Adam Woodbury lay-up gave the Hawkeyes a 47-46 advantage, their first lead since early in the game.

The Hawkeyes had found new life but were unable to close the door. They relinquished the lead soon after, and the Irish guards prevented Iowa from reclaiming a lead. Iowa trailed only 54-52 with four minutes remaining, but Notre Dame converted at the free-throw line and never allowed Iowa to come all the way back.

Many, many fouls later, Notre Dame won, 68-62.

Uthoff led the Hawkeyes and the game with 20 points and 8 rebounds, while Woodbury had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Mike Gesell had 14 points and 9 assists.

Beachem had 16 for the Irish, and Jackson had 12; three others reached double figures.
