Every week, the Iowa football team meets with the media to discuss anything and everything. The Hawkeyes have had a rash of injuries over the past few weeks, which dominated much of the discussion.
Anyways, here’s what the Iowa players had to say.
Quarterback C.J. Beathard
Injury rumors have surrounded Beathard, but he downplayed it: “I’m feeling good, I’ve gotten treatment and just trying to heal up and get better.”
On who’s been in the ice bath more, running back Jordan Canzeri or him: “It’s probably about the same honestly, we’ve both been in there a lot.”
On whether the fact that it’s a big game, divisionally: “I just wanna play because I want to play with this team, we got a good thing going right now. We’re not even looking at the Big Ten race right now.”
What hurts the most? “Honestly, it’s sometimes the smallest hits that hurt the worst, the bigger ones aren’t as bad sometimes.”
Tight end Henry Krieger Coble
On tight ends getting more targets over the past four weeks: “It comes from the looks were seeing and the teams we’re playing against. Our job really doesn’t change.”
On gaining Beathard’s trust: “We want to be out there for C.J. and be as reliable targets as we can, just to be open and be another option.”
Defense end Parker Hesse
How his game fits into the defense with Drew Ott out: “Colin Cole came back last week and talked to everyone about being 1/11th of the team. Everyone has a job to do. My job, my role, is just to be one of those 11 guys one the field.”
On big hits: “Everyone likes contact, likes to be physical and frankly it pumps you up when someone is out there laying the wood to people.”
On his favorite position he played in high school: “It’s hard to beat quarterback, you get to touch the ball every play.”
Cornerback Greg Mabin
On getting a pick off of Illinois’ Geronimo Allison: “I wouldn’t say it was revenge, but it was definitely a big part of the game. We needed a stop and a turnover definitely helped.”
On the importance of film: “The mental preparation part is just as important as the physical part and as long as you know what you’re going to have to do once you step on the field, you should be okay.”
