The Hawkeye men’s golf team finished up its last round at the David Toms Intercollegiate on Sunday, placing fourth.
LSU took first in the tournament, shooting 864 (even). The Hawkeyes shot 890 after 54 holes of play, falling just behind Liberty, which shot a 886 for third place.
Junior Carson Schaake finished best for the Hawkeyes, fourth overall and shooting 69 (minus-3), 73, and 74.
Senior Nate Yankovich shot the second lowest for the Hawkeyes, scoring 222. Yankovich placed tied for 12th.
Senior Voramate Aussarassakorn finished the tournament at 227, tied for 24th. Freshman Matthew Walker finished at 228, tying for 28th. Senior Raymond Knoll finished tied for 39th.
The Hawkeyes finished at a respectable position, given that it was their first time playing in the Southern along with playing on Bermuda grass, which may alter how the ball lies on the fairways, roughs, and greens.
Along with the different conditions, the Hawkeyes had to adjust to LSU taking first place by shooting even par as a team.
In comparison, Iowa won the GolfWeek Conference Challenge by shooting a collective minus-11 as a team.
The Hawkeyes will next play at the U.S. Collegiate Championship on Friday through Oct. 18 in Atlanta.
