Iowa women’s gymnastics is set to host Cy-Hawk rival Iowa State on Friday for its final meet of the season.
Johanny Sotillo, Caitlin Tanzer, Sydney Hoerr, Jessica Morreale, and Emma Willis will say goodbye to Carver-Hawkeye Arena, one week after the team became ranked for the first time since 2012.
"We have fantastic seniors that are leaving our program," head coach Larissa Libby said in a release. "Two of the kids actually had injuries and could not complete. They have been as much an influence and help to the program as would have if they were competing."
After career-ending injuries, Morreale and Willis, the two have served as administrative assistants for the program. Tanzer recorderd personal bests on the floor (9.725) and beam (9.750). Sotillo has posted personal bests on the uneven bars (9.900) and on the beam (9.825) in meets this season.
Hoeer is the most decorated of the bunch, competing all-around for the Hawks all four years. In that time, she has been named second team All-Big Ten and Academic All-Big Ten. She has been a staple on the vault, bars, floor, and balance beam this season.
Now ranked no. 24 in the nation, the Hawks will look to send their seniors of with a win over the interstate rival.
