At a meeting on Tuesday, the University of Iowa Faculty Council briefly discussed the progress undergone in the search for a new president.
The finalist is expected to come on campus and meet with faculty sometime in the fall, although the timeline for the search is not definite.
Alexandra Thomas, the president of the Faculty Council and a member of the UI Presidential Search Committee, said she was concerned there would be too many strong candidates to choose from.
“Personally, I would want someone visionary and inspirational that encourages the community to be the best it can be,” Thomas said.
Christina Bohannan, the vice president of the Faculty Council, iterated the desire to find “a great president.”
Thomas noted important issues the president will have to deal with are the funding of higher education and managing faculty.
