Local-option sales tax on agenda at joint meeting
The local-option sales tax will be back on the minds of local officials during the Jan. 26 joint meeting between area city councils and the Johnson County Board of Supervisors.
The proposed tax failed in last year’s election; it would have added 1 cent extra for every dollar spent.
The proposed uses in cities varied, but generally the tax money would have been used to improve capital projects.
Iowa City Mayor Pro Tem Susan Mims had previously told the DI the tax could be on the ballot as soon as next year.
