Authorities have accused a Kalona man of driving while intoxicated and causing an accident that killed another person.
Jeffery Bulechek, 28, was charged Dec. 1 with homicide by vehicle OWI and causing serious injury by vehicle.
According to online court documents, Bulechek failed to yield to another vehicle on State Highway 1, causing a collision with that vehicle.
The victim in the other vehicle suffered serious injuries including a brain injury, broken femurs, hearing loss, and restricted eye movement.
Upon investigation, officers reportedly found that Bulechek was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
Homocide by vehicle is a Class-B felony. Serious injury by vehicle is a Class-D felony.
