Authorities have accused an Iowa City man of stealing from unoccupied vehicles and possessing marijuana.
Michael Amling, 21, was charged Nov. 19 with three charges of third-degree second-offense motor-vehicle burglary and one charge of second-offense possession of controlled substance — marijuana.
According to online court documents, officers responded to a report of a man in dark clothing going through vehicles.
Amling was reportedly found in the front seat of a silver van with several storage compartments open.
Amling allegedly admitted he entered the vehicle in order to stay warm.
The officer also noticed a distinct smell of marijuana coming from Amling, and upon searching him, found that he was in possession of a zip-lock bag with marijuana, a vaporizer, and a small grinder.
Amling reportedly admitted under Miranda that he was guilty of breaking and entering.
Third-degree second-offense motor vehicle burglary and second-offense possession of marijuana are both Class-D felonies.
