Authorities have accused an Illinois man of spray-painting various trash receptacles and cars.
Brian Maigler, 18, was charged with second-degree criminal mischief on Sept. 27.
According to online court documents, Maigler was seen by an off-duty Iowa City police officer spray painting Dumpsters in the alley to the east of the 400 block of South Johnson.
Maigler was also seen spray-painting three vehicles that did not belong to him.
Once a uniformed officer tried to approach him, Maigler ran away but was later caught. He smelled strongly of alcohol and blew a .216.
The damage Maigler caused is estimated to be about $10,000.
