Authorities have accused an Iowa City woman of forgery.
Tiara Woods, 27, was charged Feb. 6 with identity theft, Jan. 20 with two counts of forgery, Jan. 21 with forgery, Jan. 22 with forgery, and March 19 with forgery.
Between Jan. 27 and March 6, Woods allegedly used the victim’s account number to purchase goods and services exceeding $1,000. Woods obtained the account number from a stolen check and distributed the number to other people who did not know the number was stolen.
On Jan. 20, Woods reportedly wrote a check to purchase a laptop computer along with various household items from Walmart. On Jan. 21 and Jan. 27, she allegedly used the check to pay for items at the CVS pharmacy. On March 19, she attempted to pay her bills at the Iowa City Public Library.
Identity theft is a Class-D felony. Forgery is a Class-D felony.
