The state Board of Regents will request to waive a policy preventing university units being named after current regent employees.

The request, according to the regents’ informational packet, will ask to waive the policy to name the University of Iowa Cardiovascular Research Center the François M. Abboud Cardiovascular Research Center. UI Professor François Abboud.

Abboud is the founder and director of the Cardiovascular Research Center.

The proposal will be made at the next regents’ meeting, Dec. 4.
