A local man allegedly possessed various materials used to produce meth.

Jorey Butterbaugh, 22, address unknown, was charged Nov. 16 with possession of lithium, possession of pseudoephedrine, and precursor-substance violation.

According to as a North Liberty police complaint, Butterbaugh was stopped for a stop-sign violation, then officers found he had an active arrest warrant. He also could not produce valid proof of insurance.

Officers reportedly found numerous precursors to the manufacture of methamphetamine were found, and his car was impounded.

During the search, the officer located several packs of pseudoephedrine, a pill grinder, lithium batteries, coffee filters, a digital scale, syringes, and a small blowtorch.

A codefendant admitted to purchasing the pseudoephedrine for Butterbaugh for the purpose of methamphetamine manufacture.

Upon his arrest, he admitted without questioning that everything found in the vehicle belonged to him.

Possession of lithium and possession of pseudoephedrine are Class-D felonies. Precursor substance violation is a Class-C felony.
