At a meeting on Thursday, the state Board of Regents approved the repairs to an emergency steam line.
The line runs between the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and the Medical Research Facility.
A project committee stated the repairs are mostly done with the exception of some landscaping that needs to be finished. The estimated cost was $350,000.
The line supplies steam to the UIHC kitchens and is not meant to be down for long periods of time.
The regents’ office was informed on Sept. 26 that the steam line was causing humidity problems in the basement of the Medical Research Facility.
In order to avoid potential losses, regents’ Executive Director Robert Donley approved the project description and budget on Sept. 30.
The project was funded by the utilities enterprise renewal and improvement funds.
