The state Board of Regents approved changing the name of the Pediatrics Department in the Carver College of Medicine to the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics.

The proposal is made in recognition of the cumulative $20 million gift of Jerre and Mary Joy Stead to advance children’s medicine.

The gift from the Steads supports faculty, staff, and researchers who are building an increasing awareness of pediatric diseases.

Jerre and Mary Joy Stead are co-heads of the UI Heath Care’s current $500 million campaign called Iowa First: Our Campaign for Breakthrough Medicine.

The UI proposed the name change because of the Steads’ donation and commitment to advancing health care and research at the Children’s Hospital and Pediatrics Department.
